Studies have shown that spending time in nature has positive effects on human health. Being around trees, shrubs, grasses, and flowering plants can help a person relax after a hectic day in the office and traffic. Sometimes, all you need to do is open the door and walk into your yard.
Native plants can be a part of that human landscape while also creating habitat that invites birds and butterflies, aiding in stormwater absorption, and reducing the need for you to water, mow, and fertilize.
NatureSpace can help you create your own sanctuary by incorporating the right native plants into the right places in your landscape where they will thrive and bloom. We’ll work with you to design the perfect retreat where you can enjoy the hum of beneficial pollinators, the colorful flight of butterflies, and the cheerful songs of birds.

MEET DAVE NEUiDave Neu’s career has spanned over 35 years in the field of natural resources.
He has worked as a Wildlife Biologist with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and the National Wild Turkey Federation, and has been a National Program Director and Executive Director for non-profit organizations. He also has worked in commercial natural resource restoration and municipal sustainability roles. In those positions, he has restored and managed tens of thousands of acres of native vegetation on public and private lands across the Midwest. One spectacular 600 acre award-winning prairie/savanna restoration project can be seen at Greenwood Wildlife Area near Hancock, WI. Dave has a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management, Biology, and Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He became a Master Gardener in 1994 and a Certified Wildlife Biologist in 2001. He received a certificate in Landscape Design in 2018. Dave serves on the National Board of Directors for Wild Ones, the Advisory Board for the Ancient Oaks Foundation, and is the former Chairman of the Sustain Libertyville Commission. Throughout his life, he has been influenced by Aldo Leopold’s “land ethic” philosophy: “The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land…[A] land ethic changes the role of Homo sapiens from conqueror of the land-community to plain member and citizen of it. It implies respect for his fellow-members, and also respect for the community as such.” For decades, Dave has created native gardens everywhere he’s lived, and his current yard has been designated a Certified Wildlife Habitat® by National Wildlife Federation, a Native Butterfly Garden by Wild Ones, and a Monarch Waystation by Monarch Watch. It has also been recognized by Openlands through their Conservation@Home program. |
